Children’s Recovery Center

In Legacy Center’s Leadership Program, each team creates an extreme makeover project in the community with budgets that usually exceed $30,000. The challenge: the project must be complete in two days, the team cannot use any of their own money, the community performs 75% of the work, and the planning phase is less than one month.
The NC 126/NC 127 Legacy Center Leadership teams chose the Children's Recovery Center in Myrtle Beach, SC as their Legacy Project. This organization is an advocate for sexually abused children and offers free services, forensic exams and therapy for these children and their families. The building where services were provided was in great disrepair. This extreme giving project included painting the building’s exterior, replacing a sink and faucet, extensive landscaping, and supplying new furnishings, computers, toys and gifts for the children. The team also created a play day for the children. The team was committed to making a difference and in the lives of these children and youth. The budget including all contracted labor, supplies, materials and services was $35,000.
